Thor recalls motorhomes: Solar panels may detach

Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2023 Gemini and Compass motorhomes. Washers were not installed with the roof mounting brackets. Without washers, the solar panel can detach and become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash which can lead to injury or worse.

The recall was issued February 17, 2025, and involves more than 600 motorhomes that were recalled after the Thor Safety Committee investigated the potential problem and found the installation inadequate.

Remedy

Dealers will inspect and install washers on the mounting brackets as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 10, 2025. Owners may contact TMC customer service at 877-855-2867. TMC’s number for this recall is RC000322.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 (TTY 888-275-9171) or go to nhtsa.gov.

Hi, Bill. If you click on the link in the first sentence of the post, then click on the link to 2 Associated Documents, there’s a little more detail in those two documents about how the washers are involved. Have a good night. 😀 –Diane

In answer to Bill Byerly, when I was writing tech manuals and mod procedures, I was always very specific and detailed regarding disassembly and reassembly procedures. However, the preceding notification the need for washers assumes that we know that bolts, nuts and any other hardware that may be associated with solar panel is included. As for the washers, either the assembly and inspection that should have followed were incompetent, or the construction and assembly documentation was lacking, either of which is not very forgivable. In Indiana I visited on a tour the Thor Class A assembly line in 2022. They made a big deal about how good their quality control and inspection procedures were.

Thanks, Gary. Here’s part of my reply to Bill, which I posted and then saw your reply to Bill: “If you click on the link in the first sentence of the post, then click on the link to 2 Associated Documents, there’s a little more detail in those two documents about how the washers are involved.” Have a good night, Gary. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com

Thankyou for that information Gary.
I have to assume ( and we all know what that references to) that the missing washers are actually a type of lock washer, as that type would help to keep the bolt and nut assembly together. Or even some type of lock nut..
