“I’ve begun to realize that you can listen to silence and learn from it. It has a quality and a dimension all its own.” —Chaim Potok
Need an excuse to celebrate? Today is National Road Trip Day! Woohoo!
On this day in history: 1962 – American astronaut Scott Carpenter orbits the Earth three times in the Aurora 7 space capsule.
BE SAFE THIS WEEKEND
Memorial Day weekend ranks as one of the most dangerous holidays on our nation’s roads and waterways. It marks the unofficial start of summer, a period notorious for a surge in impaired driving crashes. More than 500 people were killed by impaired drivers over the holiday weekend in 2022 (according to the latest available data from NHTSA) — an alarming 4.6% increase in fatalities from 2021. To bolster safety, law enforcement agencies will be intensifying DUI checkpoints this coming weekend on both roads and waterways, targeting drunk driving to mitigate risks.

Tricks to finding quiet RV parks
By Gail Marsh
Who wouldn’t want a little peace and quiet? From morning to night, daily noise hammers at our senses. Work, traffic, technology, conversation, and more assail our ears in a never-ending cacophony. Wouldn’t a nice, quiet getaway be welcome? Yes! But how can you find a quiet RV park?
Boondockers know that BLM land and other off-grid opportunities offer secluded and quiet spots. The problem? Not every RVer wants to boondock. So what’s a non-boondocker’s alternative?
Every area of the United States offers some quiet RV parks—you just need to know how and where to look. If you’re tired of the noise in your life, follow these suggestions and find your own quiet RV park.

What works in your home may not work in an RV. Shame on you, Thor!
By Dave Solberg
Dear Dave,
Is it OK for an electric refrigerator to be encased in a cupboard with no venting? We have lost two refrigerators—compressors burned out on both. I think it is too hot in the “closet” as well as the furnace located beside it with no wall between. —Deb, 2022 Thor Palazzo

LIV 201QB travel trailer is built very differently – and that’s a good thing

By Tony Barthel
Today’s RV review is of the LIV 201QB travel trailer. I bet you haven’t heard of LIV, which stands for Lightweight Innovative Vehicle. It’s actually a product of a company that makes boats, Factory Direct Marine. As such, the way these are made is very, very different than anything else I’ve seen out there.

During an inspection of a 2019 Grand Design Momentum in the shop, I found the awning rail coming loose at the roofline of the RV. In the video below[this video], see the telltale sign that got me to inspect the rail, and see just how far the rail has come loose. I’ll also show you how to get the rail back in place.

Quick Tip
What if your RV is unfixable?
What is a reasonable number of repair attempts on an RV before you can take serious action that may involve an attorney? It depends on the problem. Some things should be fixed on the very first attempt, but others might be more difficult and take two or three tries. If the problem does not get fixed fast enough or soon enough, then you can reach a point where you lose your confidence in the warranty or the ability of the dealer or manufacturer to live up to the warranty. When that happens, they may be in breach of your warranty. —SOURCE: RVlemonLaw.com

No-Bake Peanut Butter Chow Mein Noodle Cookies
by Deborah Hurtado from Las Vegas, NV
These no-bake cookies are a cross between Scotcheroos and classic Haystack cookies. The sweet gooeyness that holds this cookie together is the perfect contrast to the salty chow mein noodles. Nuts in the peanut butter add another layer of crunch. Chocolate on top is the perfect complement to all the flavors.
Trivia
After some adjustments in how it stores data, for the first time in more than five months, NASA’s 46-year-old Voyager 1 spacecraft is sending back usable data. Voyager 1 is currently more than 15 billion miles from Earth, which means it takes a signal a total of 45 hours to make a round trip to the probe from scientists and then back.

We took them on their first RV trip a day after we picked them up and they’ve been on dozens more since then.” —Greg Rennier

46 years and 15 BILLION miles! Think about that for a moment. Considering the technology available at the time Voyager 1 was engineered, manufactured, and launched, it is nothing short of amazing that it’s still communicating.
(insert mind blown emoji here).
Absolutely remarkable!!!
Agreed!!
Yet StarLink will buffer if a tree branch obstructs its view of multiple low earth orbiting satellites. It’s indeed amazing!
And equally amazing that most RV mfgs today can’t make one that isn’t falling apart by the time it hits the dealers lot. Yet Voyager still works after decades in the ravages of outter space!
I don’t know what Voyager cost but if we put that much money into an RV, it just may still be around with no defects. I’ll just bet that an RV manufacturer did not design Voyager though. It probably has more guts than bling, and no swoops on the side. It is probably still working because it didn’t have all the latest techy stuff to crap out.
🤯 There’s your mind-blown image, Sven. Have a great day. 😀 –Diane
Thank you, Chuck, Diane, and Kim! 🙂 The laugh of the day reminded me of most of the years that I worked. I rose, dressed, and left for work well ahead of DW waking. So, almost all of my work life she had no idea how I was dressed. I also do our laundry, so she had no chance to infer what I’d worn from the dirty clothes. I thought it a great arrangement. She never had anxiety or embarrassment from my dress because she had no idea what I wore beyond what was in my closet. Thanks again, have a great weekend, and safe travels! 🙂
My wife always knew what I wore to work for my 20 years in the Navy. She lost that edge when I retired and became self employed.😀
Ha! They switched places, Dan A. My wife .now knows what I wear in retirement. Have a great weekend and safe travels! 🙂
Who says it is that far away. That number can’t possibly be true. I suppose it has an odometer that tells them. Just don’t believe it. Such is life. I just can’t believe anything the govt says.
Why do you not believe it? The universe is pretty big!
What does the government get by lying? One of our tasks in life is to discern truth from falsehood. Just deciding that you don’t believe anything the government says seems lazy to me.
