Today’s thought

“Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear – not absence of fear.” ―Mark Twain

Need an excuse to celebrate? Today is National Climb A Mountain Day! And if you aren’t able to climb a mountain, perhaps you can celebrate National Cheesecake Day, instead?

On this day in history: 1962 – The Trans-Canada Highway, the then-longest national highway in the world, is officially opened.

What is the best place to connect an RV water filter?

Where should an RVer place a water filter on the fresh water intake hose? Should it be placed between the faucet and the hose or between the hose and the RV? Or, does it even matter?

One popular thought is that it’s best to place an in-line filter or purifier as close to the water source as possible, typically right at the campground spigot. That way you are protecting the hose itself, as well as the fresh water demand system in the RV. Additionally… Continue reading.

Ask Dave
Why doesn’t RV’s bathroom sink have hot water, but all other faucets do?

Dear Dave,
I have hot water everywhere except in the bathroom sink. Replaced the faucet valve; good water pressure but no hot water. Water heater is working fine. —David, 2011 Itasca Reyo 25T  Read Dave’s answer.

How to stay safe while boondocking: Gadgets to protect yourself

By Cheri Sicard
Anyone who’s spent a night alone in their RV on a pitch-black backroad knows that tense feeling. There’s no cell signal, just the low hum of night, and every sound outside seems suspicious. That uneasy knot in your stomach comes from knowing you’re far from help, and your hope is that nothing goes wrong. But, as John shows in this video, hope isn’t enough. When it comes to staying safe while boondocking, simple gear and smart planning can turn fear into peace of mind.

Woman thankful she had a new RV inspected before delivery

You’d think that a $260,000 motorhome would be delivered with everything working. Or… you’d “like to think.” Well, watch this short video about a woman who hired an RV inspector the day she was supposed to take delivery of her luxury rig! Wow, did she dodge a bullet by doing so. The inspection revealed at least 40 problems including one huge defect that alone was worth his fee. Most buyers would never find this defect until their first trip, a terrible surprise. Watch the video.

Quick tip
Keep those air conditioner coils clean

Keeping the air conditioner coils clean will prolong the life of your cooling unit. Besides dirt and dust, you may also find the “cotton” from cottonwood trees, or the pollen from various other trees, obstructing the coils. The best way to clean them: (1) Turn the unit off while you’re working on it. (2) Use an air compressor to blow out the debris (carefully—don’t bend the fins). (3) Apply a coil cleaning product (here are some from Amazon) and let it soak for a few minutes or the time recommended on the can. (4) Rinse with low pressure water. (5) Use the air compressor again to blow out remaining water. —Thanks, Deanna!

Trivia

Cats walk like camels and giraffes: They move both of their right feet first, then move both of their left feet. No other animals walk this way. Additionally, male cats are more likely to be left-pawed, while female cats are more likely to be right-pawed.

The instructions for the Tick Twister says to lift the tick and twist two or three times.
All the procedures listed from medical professionals state NOT to twist, but to slowly pull straight up.
Twisting can and will break off the mouth parts in the skin.

Regarding today’s Trivia, Standardbred horses (pacers) race using lateral movement (left front-left rear move together) like cats, camels and giraffes; Standardbred trotters race using diagonal movement (left front-right rear move together).

I have watched both. I’m not sure they come by this naturally. I think the Pacers are trained to race that way. I found this description:

The Standardbred is an American horse breed best known for its ability in harness racing where they compete at either a trot or pace.

Very sorry for your loss, Renee! I pray that the hole in your heart is healing. We have had great success with the Tick Twister. Having two sizes is great because DW seems to attract very small, almost microscopic ticks. Mine tend to be larger and more typically sized. I put the mystery product on a wish list. There certainly is a market for such. Thank you, Emily and Diane! Have a great day and safe travels!

After reading the story in an earlier addition about the fatal accident from a burning candle in an RV, the mystery product listed gave me paws (pun intended).
