In the short video below, the team from Tasty Home has some brilliant ways for RVers and campers to recycle straws. Yep, we are talking ordinary plastic drinking straws. They turn them into travel packs that hold essentials but take up almost no space and weigh nearly nothing.
They have a variety of things to fill the travel packs with, plus a bonus way to recycle straws into something practical.
All you will need are ordinary plastic drinking straws, some scissors, a lighter, and whatever you want to fill your travel packs with. Cut the straw, run a lighter over one end to melt closed, fill, then melt-close the other end!
Here’s what they did in the video. Watch it to see how it all goes together.
Spices: Fill the straws with salt, pepper, herbs, and spices for portable camping cooking packs.
Toiletries: Soap, shampoo, conditioner, and toothpaste.
Emergency fire starters: Pack a couple of matches, a starter, and some cotton.
Bag closure: See how to use two straws to secure a snack bag closed.
Do you have other ways to recycle straws? Be sure to leave them in the comments below.

Thank you, Cheri! How clever! I can imagine situations where these would be wonderful alternatives to travel-size containers. 🤔😯🙂 Thank you for finding and sharing this video! Have a great day, safe travels, and safe stays! 🙂
Am I the only one that did not see how to get toothpaste into that straw?
