Seasonal jobs cut as public lands and RV industry face big changes

By Cheri Sicard
The video below, from Jason Epperson at RV Miles, provides a news update about seasonal workers in national parks.

As usual, Jason covers the news that impacts RVers and, right now, there happens to be a lot of it, including significant changes under the Trump administration to public lands. Key topics covered in the informative video include a hiring freeze on seasonal employees that will impact national parks and the U.S. Forest Service, and the renaming of Denali back to Mount McKinley.

The federal hiring freeze is expected to impact national parks and forests as personnel was already down 15% while attendance has been up 15%. Nonetheless, many who had already been hired for the upcoming season have been reporting that their offers have been rescinded.

Jason goes into more detailed facts and stats in the video, but at this point, there will be no seasonal workers on national lands, save for seasonal firefighters.

Jason also addresses potential tariffs on the RV industry and how they will affect American RVers. He includes an RV industry 2024 wrap-up report and current RV sales and production updates.

That’s not all. Additional news covers Starlink’s service changes, fee adjustments for Michigan campsites, a Paramount Pictures casting call that’s searching for RV owners in Washington state, and Love’s Travel Stops’ expansion plans. So give the quick but information-packed video a view, and you’ll be up to date with the latest in RV news.

That was an incredibly informative video, Cheri. Thank you for sharing it. I found Jason Epperson to be very pragmatic, acknowledging that tarrifs may or may not be implemented and given that they are now stayed for 30 additional days to give both Mex. and Can. an opportunity to adjust policy to reflect respectful treatment of USA, it seems accurate, while also acknowledging it may simply be a negotiating strategy.

Jason also seemed to embrace the fact that some short term pain may be needed for long term gain and that the hiring of seasonal forest fighters is NOT on the chopping block.

Very good choice of video presentation.
Happy trails. 🚍😘

Sucks that he has to put a advertisement in the video. I don’t watch videos with advertisements.

Just a bit out of date with all the rapidly changing news in the past few weeks.

Doom and Gloom, by some, should be anticipated, but may not have been noticed in the past.

Who???? The Forest Service here announce no part-time or seasonal employees for 2025 last June (2024) according to the Rangers I talked to while camping and Jason reinforced. Though they didn’t come right out and say it, they alluded to the fact their funding was being diverted elsewhere (green projects). I am sure ALL federal recreational agencies (National Parks, US F&W, etc.) are in the same boat.

The only seasonal employees will be firefighter. Maybe DOGE will eliminate enough waste to fund agencies within our own border! The US needed a pause in hiring. After all, there were over 500,000 NEW government jobs added in the last 4 years.

Congress has cut USFS & BLM budgets dramatically since 2016. This did not save money as funds were diverted to other areas including fossil fuel industry subsidies and useless f35 attack craft maintenance among other red state projects.

Assuming to know to whom you are referring, I would like to remind you he donated his salary for 4 years to various agencies, including NFS et al…..

Yup, we do. The same guy that has exposed over $1 trillion of fraud, waste and abuse from 1/2 dozen beaurocracies in his first 3 weeks. At this pace the budget will be balancable by July 4th and some more tax cuts should follow. Great time to be alive.

How about those 19-23 year old engineers and their Implementation of “QUANTUM MAPPING” to find the thieves. I can hardly wait for the DOJ to get a few forensic accountants lined up to make sure a few hundred beaurocrats move into a few dozen cell blocks.

Histories previous and current Oligarchies all have their apologists. If you’re not suspicious you’re not paying attention in my opinion.
Time will tell.
