Think about the last time someone suggested sushi. Did your mouth start watering or did you immediately think, nope, not for me? For today’s poll, we want to know: Do you eat sushi?
For some of you, sushi is a favorite. Fresh rolls, sashimi, a little wasabi… mmm, mmm, mmm! It can feel light, flavorful, and just right, especially when you’re traveling and want something different from the usual road food.
Others are more cautious. Raw fish isn’t everyone’s idea of a good time, and that’s understandable. Texture, temperature, or simple personal preference can make sushi a hard pass, no matter how popular it is.
Then there are those of you who fall somewhere in between. Maybe you’ll eat cooked rolls, veggie sushi, or California rolls—but draw the line at anything too adventurous. You might like sushi in theory, just not all of it.
So what about you? Do you eat sushi, or is it one food you’d rather skip? Go ahead and vote in today’s poll, and if you have a favorite roll (or a strong opinion), feel free to share in the comments below. Thanks!

Readers poll: I have never tried sushi but would love to, preferably with someone who knows what everything is.
Haha 🙂
Never tried it, but I would like to if it was on a buffet where I didn’t feel like I had to eat it if I didn’t like it.
Just because I have fish bait doesn’t mean I’m going to eat it 🤢
Vegetarian!
Common misconception that sushi is always raw fish. That would be sushimi.
Sushi is mostly rice with some type of thinly sliced fish and a vegetable. Of the 40% that have not tried it, you should. May be pleasantly surprised
Two chances for us…slim and none, but enjoy!
The difference being the rice. Still has raw fish. I will however eat California Roll, which I think is crab, or maybe fake crab.
I am fortunate to have an excellent sushi restaurant in the town where I worked. I have been spoiled because none of the other sushi places I’ve tried have been as good.
Where I come from we call and use Sushi for BAIT!
I prefer sashimi.
Sushi can be very enjoyable if it’s freshly made with fresh ingredients. The pick up to go in a grocery chain is a no go. In my travels MA, CA, WA, NY have some great places. During my military travels Japan was tops.
Actually the sushi that we have here in a couple of grocery stores is pretty good. It is made by an outside company that specializes in it.
If man was meant to eat raw fish fire would never have been invented.
There are a few “fishless” items I could tolerate, but I tried a sashimi (raw fish) sampler (5 kinds of fish) at a high end Japanese restaurant, on the coast and do NOT like raw fish. Period. It was good, fresh, quality fish. I’m just not fond of fish in general and will not eat raw fish. But, I gave it a fair try.
I would eat raw fish if I was, say, an eagle or a bear. Otherwise, it stays in the bait bucket!
Is there a difference between raw oysters and sushi? I can handle oysters on crackers – but as noted – fish bait for fish are not appealing at all. Sort of like eating minnows?
No, it’s nothing at all like that. It’s typically various types of tuna, salmon, shrimp, crab, or squid, not all of which is served raw. Combined with rice, seaweed, sesame, soy, ginger, and other flavors, it’s a party in your mouth! It’s much less of an acquired taste than sashimi, which is just pieces of the same types of raw fish.
I’m surprised at the closed-mindedness of some of the people here, as I expected folks with a taste for adventure on the road would be somewhat the same with food. I sense a bit of “Green Eggs and Ham” complex in play.
I would like sushi if you got rid of the seaweed, beer battered and deep fried it then served it with French fries, coleslaw and tartar sauce!
Air Force decided I needed to be in Korea for a year tour, then on to Northern Japan for 3 year tour. Sushi became my go to food, in both countries. Even today, will buy a tray of Sushi for lunch.
Sushi was not a childhood option. However, as an adult eating sushi, and poke is awesome. Not every type of sushi, such as octopus, but tuna, salmon, mackerel are all good. I however, can not stomach welk (sea snail) in the USA. It’s off my list until I can have it prepare in Japan, at a good sushi house.
