What is the best way to protect and insulate the underbelly of an RV?
Dear Dave,
What is the best way to protect and insulate the underbelly of an RV? I have seen where the manufacturer will cover the entire underbelly with a thin corrugated plastic. I have also seen where the manufacturer simply sprays insulation on the entire underbelly, leaving the underside exposed, assuring access to vital components, valves, tubing and wiring. This is a couple’s camper, for sure. While yesterday’s Ember RV Touring Edition 26MRB was the absolute pinnacle of this group, today we’re looking at… uh, er… the most affordable in the series.

As the number of folks “selling out” and becoming RV full-timers grows, new issues arise. Here’s part of a letter we received from one of our regular RVtravel.com readers. Mary H. wrote, “My husband and I have looked into purchasing land to put our RV on and use as a ‘home base.’ This seems to be harder than we first thought! … This is like trying to find a needle in a haystack! Quick Tip
Easy way to check fridge temperature
We got this tip from RVer Roger Marble, our tire expert extraordinaire:
When traveling, we can never be sure we are keeping the stuff in the refrigerator cold. My solution:
- Get a PC fan from your local computer repair shop. Low amp or current rating is good, as that will run longer with less drain on the battery.
- Wire it to the door switch, as you do not need light when the door is closed.
- Get an indoor/outdoor thermometer and hang the display on the wall near the refrigerator and the “outdoor” sensor in the fridge.

Under the ways to check fridge temps, they make a fan for fridge that runs on D batteries and will have no drain on R V battery. Have used one for years.
In regards to the readers poll. We have both …lol. we are not fulltime and we use our Jayco 210qb as a” just us two” for short trips to state park or national parks. . Our 37 ft 1998 Coachman we use when we have the grandkids or extended trips. Neither are fancy but enjoy them greatly.
