Why every RVer should keep cornstarch onboard
By Gail Marsh
Whether you’re a full-time RVer or an occasional weekend camper, having a few inexpensive, versatile tools in your travel arsenal can make life on the road a lot easier. One of my favorite multitaskers is cornstarch.
Most folks use cornstarch for thickening sauces in the kitchen. However, this humble powder can solve a variety of RV-related challenges—from keeping you cool and comfortable to helping with cleaning and pest control. Don’t believe me? Read on to see!

Low clearance caution
If you’re relying on the “low clearance” signs on some overpasses, be careful, observes Nikki H. She adds, “A paving job may have been done and the sign not changed. That could subtract another two to four inches from the total height.” Highway head-bangers! Thanks, Nikki!

And the survey says…
We’ve polled RVtravel.com readers close to 5,000 times in recent years. Here are a few things we’ve learned about them:
• 18 percent say their RV has been in a repair shop for a month or longer more than once! Yikes!
• 55 percent will always or most always choose to buy a generic (usually cheaper) brand at the grocery store than name brand (usually most expensive).
• 10 percent met their current spouse or partner online.

Trivia
You’ve probably heard the term “bug” when a computer program crashes—but did you know the very first “computer bug” was actually a real insect? In 1947, a moth got trapped in the circuits of an early computer. Computer scientist Grace Hopper discovered it, removed it, and jokingly referred to the process as “debugging.” The term stuck, and we’ve been using it ever since.

Precious and Pennyrose look like great traveling pals. Thanks for sharing Don.
Quick Tip on low clearance – in addition to paving decreases, does the road slope on either side of the overhead obstacle? Depending on the length of your RV, you might straddle the dip and have much less clearance than marked. I have also seen overpasses where one lane might be lower than the other. Crews are supposed to indicate the lowest point, but did they?
I had to buy an extra footstool since our girl’s (Bam Bam & Pebbles) took ownership of mine thinking I bought it for them. They do have first rights. 🙂
Leave Here With A Laugh sign should read: “If you mow here you (willl) have rocks in your head.”
Thank you, Emily and Diane! Ha! You sold a mug! 🙂 Have a great day and safe travels!
If only our two dogs would be comfortable on a footstool like Precious and Pennyrose. Our dogs claim the best seats – and of course we let them, but we snuggle in next to them if they were there first.
