Easy step-by-step DIY RV toilet seal replacement

By Cheri Sicard
Brian, from RV with Tito DIY, one of our readers’ favorite RV repair how-to YouTubers, has produced a handy video that most RVers are going to need at some point. That’s because after a while, your RV toilet seal is bound to wear out. I know I am at that point; how about you?

If your RV’s toilet won’t hold water and you can hear a steady drip and water is in the bowl, your RV toilet seal might also need replacing. Continue reading to learn more.

Ask Dave
Why is there no rear-engine gas pusher Class A?

Dear Dave,
I don’t know if this is your area, but I will ask anyway. I see many RV reviews about Class A motorhomes being a pusher, but always with diesel. Why don’t they make a pusher with gas? Naturally, this would be for smaller class A’s. Looking to upgrade. —Jeff, 2016 30-ft. Gulfstream Read Dave’s answer here.

RANDOM RV THOUGHT: If you like loud music, then buy a set of high-quality headphones for use in campgrounds. Don’t blast speakers. That’s rude!

How to prepare for RVing weather hazards like tornadoes, flash floods, snow, and more

By Cheri Sicard
Rolling down the open highway is one of the big draws of RV life, but each region brings its own set of weather risks. From dust storms in the Southwest to hurricanes along the Eastern Coast and tornadoes in the Midwest, knowing what could hit is key to staying safe on the road. In today’s video, Jason Epperson from RV Miles shares practical, real-world tips that help RV travelers get ahead of the weather, not just react to it.

Treated like family at Truck Centers, Inc., an amazing RV Freightliner service center

By Nanci Dixon
It is not often that I can write absolute rave reviews about an RV service center, but Truck Centers, Inc. in Morton, Illinois, is one of the few. As we were talking with Gabe Kline, the RV service technician, he started asking questions about work we’ve had done in the past and I realized we may have been a little more lax on the RV maintenance than we probably should be. Quick tip
You need to know how your RV “measures up”

The importance of knowing how “tall” your RV is can’t be overstated. But how to do it? Bob suggests getting a 2×4, a thick piece of Styrofoam, or even firm cardboard. Put your choice up on the top of your air conditioning unit (or whatever the highest point on your RV is), then use a tape measure to measure up to the bottom of the object. That way you’ll have (hopefully) the figure for the tallest point of your RV.

Stop smoking! Stop biting your nails! Quit drinking all those sugary drinks! Quit nagging on your partner! What do all these things have in common? Well, here’s how to stop them(And seriously, check out those reviews. Wow!)

And the survey says…

We’ve polled RVtravel.com readers close to 5,000 times in recent years. Here are a few things we’ve learned about them:

• 56 percent say their financial worth is greater than it was two years ago.
• 32 percent would rethink staying at an RV park if they found out it was close to train tracks.
• 23 percent take their RV batteries out of the cold each year and store them in their garage or basement.

Recent poll: How often do you cook outside (grill, BBQ, campfire cooking, etc.)?

Trivia

Next time you pass a Harley-Davidson motorcycle on the road, think about a blue whale’s heart. Their hearts are about as big as that motorcycle, measuring on average 5 x 4 x 5 feet. Their hearts weigh about 400 pounds.

Readers’ pet of the day

“Missy (Beagle, 13) was a rescue from Northern Michigan 11 years ago. She is a good hunter for mice in the yard up North and bugs in the grass here in Central Florida. Missy took well to full-time RVing and loves to sit outside.” —Ellen Lane

I enjoyed Nanci’s review of their Truck Center experience. Years ago I was a heavy truck mechanic for a very large company and it’s nice to see a positive review about the industry. It is hard, dirty and sometimes dangerous work and the staff rarely get the recognition they deserve.

Hi, Dane. That’s true. I just looked it up and the lightest one is about 480 lbs. Both of my 6’8″ sons have big Harleys that weigh probably closer to 1,000 lbs. (I love the “rumble” of a big Harley!) Have a great day. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com

When measuring an Rv with air suspension – be sure it is at road travel height when you measure!

That goes for your tow vehicle too if you’re towing and it has air bags/air suspension.
