Over the last few years of writing this column, I have been amazed at the vehicles that people have turned into campers and RVs. I have learned that “where there’s a will, there’s a way.” But perhaps most surprising of all is Lorraine Forster’s Smart Car camper.
I have seen some super small camping setups, but I do believe this Smart Car camper takes the cake!
For those not familiar, Smart Cars are teeny tiny little cars, just eight feet long. That didn’t slow Lorraine down from converting her Smart Car into a camper. And it is pretty amazing what she accomplished.
Perhaps the biggest help to Lorraine is the fact that the Smart Car has a hatchback that allows her to open everything up from the back end. Even better for camping, not only does the Smart Car sport a hatchback, but it also has a tailgate. Underneath that tailgate is a storage area where Lorraine keeps a lot of her camping supplies.
Her single bed runs down the passenger side of the car. As Lorraine is only 5’6” tall, it works for her. Watch the video to see how she fashioned the sleeping platform out of a couple of boards.
Another nice feature of the Smart Car camper is the moonroof that gives Lorraine a gorgeous view of the night skies from her cozy bed.
