Tips for surviving lightning while RVing
By Gail Marsh
My husband and I enjoy traveling south for the winter months. I’m happy to escape the cold Midwest winter, but I’m not excited to relive the lightning storm we experienced a few years back. Florida is known as the Lightning Capital of the U.S. (July is usually its busiest month.) However, lightning can strike at any time of the year. This year, I want to be prepared! I need some tips for surviving lightning while RVing.
Storms can be frightening. Growing up in the Midwest, I know and respect the power of a thunderstorm, with its potential for excessive wind, rain, and hail. I also know the power of lightning that often accompanies these storms. What I didn’t know a few years ago was how to deal with thunderstorms while RVing.
Ask Dave
My RV’s 12-volt system quit working, but 120-volt works. What to check?
Dear Dave,
My 12-volt system has quit working. I have 120 that still works the A/C and microwave, but lights and fans don’t work. I’ve pulled the inverter out but am wondering how to check it. It still has power going to it. I’m pretty good on electrical tracing but this has me stumped. Should I just replace it? Thank you. —Jeff, 2015 Livin’ Lite 28FBD

Should you carry LP cylinders lying down?
By Russ and Tiña De Maris
The propane attendant readied to sling our seven-gallon cylinder in the back of the car. “Would you mind setting it upright, please?” we asked. He shrugged his shoulders, and said, “You know, it really doesn’t matter. It’s safe whether it’s standing up or lying down.” But he put it upright, as we asked. It begs the question: Is it safe to carry LP cylinders lying down? For that matter, is it legal? Find out here.

When RVing, do you collect souvenirs?
Quick Tip
Here’s a handy campground shower caddy
Drill holes in the bottom of an old ice cream or plastic bucket. Use it to carry shampoo, soap, washcloth, etc., to and from the shower building.

Crab Stuffed Deviled Eggs
by Lee Thayer from Nakhon Si Thammarat
Oh, these are not your ordinary deviled eggs. They’re super decadent. Crabmeat adds a nice texture to the filling. These deviled eggs are creamy and filled with crab. An easy recipe if you want to jazz up deviled eggs.
Trivia
Pigs have been domesticated for thousands of years. They are used for meat, lard, leather, brushes, heart valves, and paint products. Since they can’t sweat, pigs require a nearby water source to cool down. That’s why they love rolling around in the mud. They are sociable and intelligent, the 5th most intelligent mammal after humans, primates, dolphins and whales. They are very sensitive emotionally, and can even get their feelings hurt.

Camping with current gas prices…spot on…imagine a 20 mule team pulling a monster motorhome.
I’d like to see how they mount the fifth-wheel hitch to those mules to pull one of those 40’+ 5vers! 🙂
Those are horses, not mules
Well, I guess they are half Mule then. Mikal is half right??
Thank you, Emily and Diane! 🙂 Bubba was cute, very sorry to learn of his passing. 🙁 Have a wonderful week and safe travels! 🙂
The ice cream pail idea might be inexpensive (so long as you really like ice cream). We use plastic beach baskets. They make better use of RV cupboard space than the pails and are not as brittle.
Love the pic. Is that how Amish go camping? {I know it’s not cause they camp near us all the time. Mennonites really, not Amish.)
As for pigs? We can add one more thing to what they do. Donate a kidney. From what I am reading the pig kidney into a human is still going strong. Hurrah.
Heart valves too, I believe..
