How NOT to sell your RV

By Russ and Tiña De Maris
The RV pundits told us that after the big rush of the COVID pandemic buying surge slowed down, there’d be a change. They said too many people would find out what RVing was really like, and wouldn’t find it to their liking. They projected a time would come when plenty of used RVs would flood the market. Seems like they’re right—there are plenty of used RVs on Craigslist. That doesn’t mean it’s a buyer’s market. It could be, but too many people trying to sell their RVs have taken the Heloise Home Course on How to Hack Off a Potential RV Customer.

Selling an RV on the internet seems to be a natural. You have plenty of exposure, and if you post on a forum like Craigslist, the system makes it easy for the buyer.

Ask Dave

Lower slide room flap gets caught in rollers. Service center says it is due to using 303 Protectant?

Dear Dave,
On the bottom of our Schwintek slide, I just noticed that the bottom seal is getting caught in the rollers. We bought it new in 2019 and are the original owners. After you review my pictures, is there a seal that will work better than the original seal installed by Forest River, and should I replace the original one? One shop told me that because I used 303 Protectant on the seal it softened it, so that now it folds back when I’m closing the slide and gets caught in the rollers. —Eugene, 2019 Forest River Luxury Surveyor model 226RBDS

Get rid of those decal “ghosts”!
If you use a coin to remove old decals from your RV, you may have an unwelcome guest when the job’s done: decal “ghosts” – shadowy after-images imprinted in the Filon siding. The solution? A heavy-duty oxidation remover! Pour the remover onto a rough sponge and scrub the Filon in circles. The yellow oxidation will come right up and your RV will look good as new! The remover will also remove stains, scratches and water spots. Learn more or order here.

2024 Keystone Bullet Crossfire 2220ML—Same floor plan done better?

By Tony Barthel
Today’s RV review is of the new-for-2024 Keystone Bullet Crossfire 2220ML travel trailer. What we have is a floor plan that is very usable but, in typical Bullet fashion, both surprisingly light. Another surprise, to me, was when I went to look at the price of these.

I’m used to going to look at the price of RVs lately and just being horrified by how much even “bargain” RVs are. This one, coming in at an MSRP of $35,813, was remarkable to me. Especially considering what’s included.

94-year-old man lives in amazing DIY tractor-trailer RV conversion

By Cheri Sicard
In the video below we join Carol, a full-time RVing septuagenarian, as she interviews Bernie and Lois, a couple of nonagenarians who live full-time in an amazing tractor-trailer RV conversion. Of course, they give us a tour.

The tractor-trailer RV conversion profiled in the video is actually the 5th RV that 94-year-old Bernie has built. His first one was way back in 1959. At the time Bernie had only ever seen an RV on paper, not in person. But he built it anyway!

The best sourdough biscuits by an old Sourdough himself

By Randall Brink
One of my favorite things about being an old RV prospector and Sourdough is maintaining and using the live, active sourdough for all types of cooking and baking. The culture of flour, natural yeasts, and beneficial bacteria make bread dough rise and result in a fragrant, delicious camp staple with an origin story going back to the 14th century…. Read more and get Randall’s recipe for delicious Sourdough Camp Biscuits here.

Quick Tip

A trick to getting mail on the road

“I ran across this service from the USPS and signed up for it. I now get an email showing photos of what may be coming in my mail delivery soon. It is a free service. I am especially looking forward to having this when we travel. It is a good reminder when a bill is due, or something important needs further attention.

“I don’t recall this being mentioned in a newsletter in the past. I think it could be helpful to many. The link has lots of information about the program features.” —Martin Addie

Recipe of the Day

Chorizagna – My Mexican Chorizo Lasagna

by Stephanie Beacham from Jacksonville, NC

Looking for a flavorful dinner? You’ve found one with this chorizo lasagna recipe. It’s so easy and delicious! Chorizo adds a mild spiciness to the lasagna, which pairs well with the pop of paprika. The cottage cheese adds a wonderful creaminess to the dish. We chose to use the pepper jack cheese and it does add a bit of heat. If you don’t like spicy, substitute a taco blend or shredded cheddar. The layers of flavor mesh very well together.

Which U.S. coin has a value equal to its mass? Can you guess? If you guessed the nickel, you’re right. The coin weighs exactly 5.000 grams per U.S. Mint specifications, which means it has a value of exactly five cents.

I use the USPS app to see what’s coming to my mailbox. No surprises at the end of a long trip.
Have a person at home base to open the mail you need to read. Also shows packages coming and delivered. No pictures of packages. Great service at no cost to set up .

We signed up for Informed delivery. Shows what we are receiving each day. We also have our son collecting our mail and if we need him to he will open and let us know what it is about. Works great.

You might try going to your browser window and clicking on the AA at the very right end in the window, then select “Show Reader”. It hides the ads. I tried it today with this newsletter and I think all the material was still showing. I did notice the comments were not visible, however. I just went back and clicked on the AA in the browser window again and selected “Hide Reader” to see the comments. This is the first time I tried it with this newsletter, but I routinely use it on another shorter RV newsletter that has ads that really interfere with reading an article.

Hi, Engineer. Sorry about the ads you’re seeing, even though you’re a paying subscriber. The ad-free newsletters are only on the weekends, not on the weekdays. There would be too much work involved for our very limited staff (i.e., basically Emily and me) to put together two newsletters every day. It looks like some of our readers have some good suggestions, however. I hope one of them works for you. Thank you very much for your support, BTW. We sincerely appreciate it, and we appreciate YOU! Have a great day. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com

We use the USPS’ priority mail forwarding where they package all your mail and send it to you weekly via priority mail (box) when we are in Florida for the winter. Works great but only if you are staying put…

Thank you, Emily and Diane. If the linked web page of abandoned places has too few places for someone to visit, the Science Channel has a show called “Mysteries of the Abandoned” (https://www.sciencechannel.com/show/mysteries-of-the-abandoned-science) that examines places worldwide. Usually at least one site per episode is in the US, sometimes more. The ten seasons probably offer more domestic sites than anyone will ever care to visit, but there also are lots of different kinds of sites among so many episodes.

We have used the suggested service offered by USPS for 4 or 5 years and it is quite helpful. Especially helpful is knowing when any packages will be delivered.
