Tips, advice and other things you should know about recalls

By Janet Groene
Recalls of any product can be a pain in the neck as well as a pain in the pocketbook. Yet, to RV travelers, these notifications are also an important warning that your travels, and even your life, might be in danger.

It’s always good to know that the product is defective before you find out the hard way. It’s also a nuisance that takes a bite out of your RV timetable. If you’re lucky, you get an email or letter telling you that something you own has been recalled. If you’re diligent, you check for recall information on a regular basis of your choice and learn of recalls that might apply to you. What comes next can be a real headache.

inTech Luna Rover—a teardrop like no other

By Cheri Sicard
The inTech Luna Rover is one of those tiny campers that makes people stop and stare. It is small, light, and easy to tow, but still feels like a high-end little cabin. The Luna Rover weighs about 1,800 pounds, so many smaller SUVs and crossovers can tow it. Its trademark feature is the huge curved front window, which gives it a raindrop look rather than a simple teardrop profile. Check it out.

How to remove EternaBond tape

A question we get asked a lot is, “Can EternaBond tape be removed?” Yes, it can be removed if it fails or if necessary for replacing items that have been sealed with it. The steps are the same, no matter if it’s on a slide-out roof or a main roof. Here’s what to do.

How to clean an RV hot water tank

By Cheri Sicard
In this video, certified RV technician RV Repair Woman pulled a water heater from a customer’s rig, then found the kind of mess that keeps water cold and faucets sluggish. Her video guide shows exactly how that tank was brought back from a solid inch of gunk to a tank that could actually heat again. Learn more by reading and watching.

Compassion or concern for the homeless in “our” campground

By Nanci Dixon
As some of you are aware, we are camp hosts in a large regional park in Minnesota. Last week, a homeless couple approached us wanting to stay at a campsite. They did not have enough money for the site—they were $10 short, so my husband and I decided to chip in the $10 ourselves. Continue reading.

Quick tip

Mystery holding tank smells?

Got a stinky RV and can’t seem to locate the responsible party? Sometimes the “air admittance valve” that prevents a vacuum from forming when you run water down the sink or shower stall quits working and allows gray water tank smells to come back into the coach. Look for these little valves under your sink. They’re a cheap replacement item from hardware stores like Home Depot and Lowe’s. As you can see from the picture, they simply unscrew from the plumbing system with a standard “righty-tighty, lefty-loosey” twist.

Trivia

In the early 20th century, the combination of sweet potatoes and marshmallows gained popularity, thanks in part to clever marketing by companies like the Angelus Marshmallow Company. They promoted marshmallows as an ingredient to enhance various dishes, including sweet potatoes. This coincided with the rising popularity of sweet potatoes in the U.S., and the sweet and indulgent mix quickly became a Thanksgiving tradition. The classic sweet potato casserole with marshmallow topping has since become a beloved dish on many Thanksgiving tables.

While I enjoy the “RV reviews,” they would be so much better if a floor plan were shown. It’s hard to visualize by simply reading about what it includes inside. “Flow” is often used when describing a house. I mean, just about every review includes a photo of the outside of the RV, but no diagram to show its internal “flow.”

I agree. All reviews are much more useful with a floor plan shown. Now they’re starting to include them in home real estate listings, and they add so much to the info!!!

For cleaning the hot water heater: after using the flush wand, etc. Consider removing the shower head, faucet screens from the faucet and flush water through the lines for a few minutes. There will be a lot of “fine” particulate that is lurking and flushing will prevent them from traveling through the lines and clogging your faucet screens.

Great idea, now that you have everything apart its a great time to soak them in some distilled white vinegar for a half hour or so! They will work a lot better especially that crusty shower head!

Our bird feeder monitor is more expensive overall, but multi-purpose. When the cat is intently staring out the RV window at the bird feeder with tail twitching, we know there is activity at the feeder. We have two cats. Both are strictly indoor – they are in fact, terrified if they are outside.
